Donation Drive for #Backpack4Hope Initiative

Donation Drive for #Backpack4Hope Initiative

Manitoba Parents for Ukrainian Education is asking for support in collecting donated school supplies that will be part of a Backpack bundle that Ukrainian children/teens receive upon arrival in Winnipeg and our School Division.

By now you have likely heard the official news of a federal charter plane with approximately Ukrainians onboard, arriving in Winnipeg on May 23rd.  It is expected approximately 20% of those coming will be children.

In anticipation of the arrival of some of these children/teens to our community, Smith-Jackson School has offered to be a collection depot for donated school supplies that are part of the Backpack bundle. We will be making up the backpacks for children/teens arriving here in Dauphin as well.

If you would like to donate to #Backpacks4Hope initiative, please drop off your donated items at the Smith-Jackson Ukrainian Bilingual School office by Friday, May 20th. We have several backpacks to put together by that deadline but will continue our collection after this date as well.

The following items are needed:

  • New or near new backpacks

New school supplies such as:

  • Glue (glue sticks or school glue)
  • Children’s scissors
  • Crayons, pencils/pens/markers
  • Notebooks/scribblers
  • Pencil sharpeners
  • Rulers/pencils/erasers
  • New small toys (eg: cars, UNO cards, Pretty Ponies, craft kits, playdoh, colouring books, stickers, new stuffed animals etc.)
  • New hygiene items (eg: Children’s shampoo/Children’s, body wash or soap/ deodorant for teens, chapstick/lip gloss, pocket Kleenex, hair accessories, hair brushes, toothbrush and toothpaste)

Thanks for your continued support!
